Communication Blog
This semester I am taking a course in Communication. Obviously, the process of communication has been learn and taught to us throughout our lives, from our childhood up to adulthood. Why then take a course in Communication? I believe there is more to communication then implied, and taking a survey study of this field will enhance my life in many ways, such as learning theories, styles and techniques. In short, here are a few things I hope to learn about and how I intend to implement these skills in daily living.
Finding My Voice.

In today’s society, everyone seems to already have something to say. People are quick to want to establish themselves to others without a moment of consideration. I however, find it difficult to say anything without knowing the truth. Also, I find that opinions are not worth much, unless it is done effectively to persuade others. I just think that this course in communication would be a good way to start knowing what exactly it is that matters to me and how will I affectively communicate this to my audience. It is a journey towards finding my unique rhetoric, one that is common place, yet persuasive, well-spoken, and ethical; representing my true voice amongst the many.
Being Understood.

One of my pet-peeves is being misunderstood. It would be so amazing if every time communication occurred, that the message was received the way it was intended to be received. But, that is not always the case, especially in my life. I would like to learn what leads to miscommunication, and how to speak with others more effectively to remove, or bypass things such as noise and contextual barriers. I believe that being understood clearly is being a competent communicator.
It’s Personal.

Undoubtedly, Communication is necessary for me to pass this academic course, and to graduate. I have already acknowledge the importance of communication in my professional career development. I look forward to becoming an even better professional with all that I will learn in this course! But if I were to be honest, I need communication to help me in my personal life. Specifically, for it to help me with my psychological needs, by improving my intrapersonal communication within myself. It can assist me with my social relationships, so that I can create and maintain stronger bonds with others through my interpersonal communication. Most importantly, I need communication to make me more culturally aware. With so many stories, news and comments in this fast paced technology-data driven age, my hope is that communication will help me decipher messages better from it all, to get to what we all seem to want, the truth.
